The Wargo Group
Higher Education Consulting
What’s getting in the way?
Helping colleges, universities, health sciences programs, and schools of pharmacy identify barriers limiting enrollment, student success, organizational performance, and long-term sustainable growth.
Let’s Talk About Your Institution
Academic Strategy | Enrollment, Retention & Student Success | Leadership & Culture | Organizational Performance
Academic leaders are expected to manage people, budgets, enrollment, student outcomes, accreditation, culture, strategy, and institutional expectations—often all at the same time.
When something isn’t working, the challenge is not always a lack of effort. Sometimes the harder problem is identifying what is actually getting in the way.
From inside an organization, patterns can be difficult to see clearly.
The Wargo Group helps leaders step back, assess what is happening, identify the underlying barriers, and develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Helping leadership teams move from identifying problems to the implementation of solutions.
I've spent decades in higher education as an assistant professor, associate professor, full professor, regional dean, interim dean, and dean.
I've led through accreditation, enrollment challenges, student retention concerns, academic outcomes, organizational change, budget pressures, faculty issues, and the everyday complexities of leading academic organizations.
I've also learned that leadership rarely unfolds exactly the way the textbooks say it should.
I've made difficult decisions.
I've made mistakes.
I've changed my mind.
I've learned from all of it.
That's the perspective I bring to every consulting engagement.
Not theory alone. Experience.
I’ve sat in the chair
How we work
1. Listen
Understand the problem before prescribing the solution.
2. Assess
Examine the people, processes, data, structures, and assumptions contributing to the challenge.
3. Act
Develop practical recommendations and a realistic implementation strategy.
No generic playbooks. No 80-page report that sits on a shelf.

Academic Leadership Teams
While my professional background gives me particular depth in pharmacy and health-professions education, the leadership and institutional challenges I work on extend across higher education.
Maybe you know exactly what the problem is. Maybe you don't. Either is fine.
If you're an institution looking for an outside perspective, let's talk. The first conversation isn't a sales pitch. It's simply an opportunity to understand what you're facing and determine whether I might be able to help.
